During the 17th and 18th centuries, churches from all over Europe gradually started to decorate and hold Christmas trees every winter. Although some argued that this symbol could distract Christians from the real reason of celebration, the birth of Christ, the habit just became more and more popular over time.
As for the Christmas decorations, they were initially placed nearby the tree. From candles to other shiny, small hand-made objects, they were all arranged on a wooden ‘pyramid.’ Gradually, people started hanging them on trees and voila! Here is the origin of today’s Christmas tree.
